Computer Skills Which Ones Your Staff Needs

Don’t worry too much if you lack advanced technical computer skills. A lot of that can be remedied by just putting in a little bit of time each week in doing some self-study. In this article, you’ll learn which computer skills are necessary to serve your sweet spot small business clients.

If It Works, Break It
You can do something as simple as getting a not-for-resale (NFR) copy of a product that you want to sell, install, and support and then working with the product in your lab. When you or one of your lead technicians or engineers has a spare half-hour to an hour, you can walk through the basic installations. Then, deliberately break the lab installations. Next, reinstall the software until you get more comfortable with the package.

Most of these products that you’ll be installing for small businesses are very mature technologies. They’re very wizard-driven, and at least for plain-vanilla configurations, they don’t require tremendous levels of computer skills.

Installations Are Easier Now
Years ago, it was much more difficult to install the Novell small business suite or IBM equivalent, or the original 1997 Microsoft Small Business Server. But all of these companies, especially Microsoft, put a lot of money into making it easier for people who don’t have advanced IT backgrounds and networking computer skills to install their small business server application suites.

In terms of your technical computer skills to service sweet spot clients, your staff needs to:
1.have good strong PC hardware skills
2.be able to handle a peer-to-peer setup
3.understand what TCP/IP is all about
4.know what POP3 and SMTP are
5.know how to work with basic SOHO routers

If your staff possesses the above skills, you’re definitely at a good starting point to get started with at least the smaller sweet spot small businesses (10-20 PCs).

Share the knowledge among your employees
Make sure your staff members cross-train each other and you. This way, no one’s ever too knowledgeable to the point where they can blackmail you, extract huge raises or huge bonuses, or walk away with your client base. You have to make sure your company’s internal know-how or intellectual capital can’t just get up and walk out the door to your biggest competitor.

The Bottom Line about Computer Skills
In this article you’ve learned about which technical computer skills are necessary to service your sweet spot clients.

Careers In Sound Design

Recording careers don’t only involve working with temperamental divas and disorganized rock bands. The skills and knowledge required in the recording industry can lead to numerous career opportunities in Sound Design and Production. Sound Designers are most usually employed in the film and television industry, where they provide sounds to accompany screen action. The work they produce is essential to the filmmaking process, as sound elements give film a sense of location or period, or a particular mood. These elements can be any sort of recorded sound, from field recordings to music and special effects. There is, as you can imagine, quite a bit of versatility required, as designers can work alone to produce entire soundtracks and effects, or in a team involving a production mixer, sound supervisor, editor and director. People in this line of work, therefore, must be good communicators, and willing to accept direction and work with others. They must also have a thorough understanding of acoustics and both analog and digital recording and editing equipment and techniques. In film and TV production, sound effects are added during the editing process. This means that most designers have to be experienced sound editors, comfortable with the editing process, software and equipment. Sound design, however, is not limited to just television and film productions. With numerous media platforms now competing with movie and TV screens, including the Internet, advertising and computer games, the demand for quality, high-trained sound designers is at an all-time high. Sound designers may be employed by a host of production and media companies, however, many work on a freelance basis, with their own audio workstations and recording equipment. This flexibility gives the opportunity to work on a number of different projects, across a variety of different platforms and formats. As you can see, now is a great time to start a sound design career training program. The best sound design training programs offer a mix of classroom theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training. Graduates from these programs are highly sought after in the industry, as this varied training approach has numerous benefits: it introduces students to the essentials of the profession, providing an overview of the skills and techniques needed to create recorded sounds, music and special effects; while also providing a golden opportunity to gain experience and confidence with the necessary tools and software needed in the trade. Android Spy Software Not Just for Three-Letter Agencies Anymore

Android Spy Software: Not Just for Three-Letter Agencies Anymore When people think of Android spy software, they usually think of agencies that use three letters to identify themselves, most of which they know from TV. They don’t even have to represent real agencies anymore. Good examples are the FBI, the CIA, the KGB, etc. However, the reality is that Android spy software is available to anyone who wants to buy it. All you need is Internet connection, the IMEI number of the Android-based phone, and a widely accepted credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Some sites will also accept payment by an online form of payment, such as PayPal. In case you didn’t know, the IMEI number of an Android-based phone is a number that is unique to each phone and that helps identify it from the millions of other phones in the world, Android-based or otherwise. In addition, it’s should be noted that Android spy software can only be installed on Android-based phones that you own. Installing it on phones that belong to other people is a crime and the people who sold you the Android spy software will collaborate with the authorities and give them your information. So, just don’t do it. It’s not worth it. So, what does the software enable you to do? Well, I’ll answer that question from two different points of view. First, I’ll start with the technical answer. Once you purchase the software, you can log into a website and see how the Android-based phone is being used. You can see the calls that the phone has made, the calls that the phone has received, and the content of any text messages sent or received. In addition, you can find the location of the phone on Google Maps or another similar program. However, it’s really not the technical part that people want to know, but rather how it can benefit them. This is where Android spy software really sells itself. If you’re an employer, you can use it to find if your employees are committing fraud or leaking information to other companies. If you’re a parent, you can find out what problems your children are getting into and you can easily find them if they get lost. If you suspect your spouse is having an affair, you can find it out easily within a few weeks. If your parents are too old, you can keep track of them without their knowing, etc. As you can see, the benefits of the software depend on how you choose to use it, rather than the technical features of it. And you don’t have to be a CIA agent to get it.

Are Your Staff Dressing Appropriately

A muggy hot British, summertime can be difficult for many small-business owners: A female member of staff shows up for work in the shortest of shorts, or a male employee arrives wearing an inappropriately worded T-shirt, all working in full view of customers or worse potential customers.

Violations of the company dress code aren’t confined to the summer months, but they tend to be more frequent than in colder months when everyone generally covers up. Employers who do not like an abundance of skin showing need their staff to be crystal clear about the company dress code.

Employers can require employees to wear certain kinds of clothes, and to ban other types from the workplace. Uniforms are required in some jobs. And some clothes can be forbidden because of safety issues.

Chances are, most employees do have a sense of how to dress for work. But having a company dress code will help you avoid problems or resolve them easily. Here is what to keep in mind: Dress codes are legal: Your female employees in a skimpy outfit may protest when you say it is inappropriate dress for work. But you have the law on your side.

The boss is also allowed to determine what kind of image the company is trying to project, choose apropriate workwear to prortray that and to require employees to conform with it.

The law does require you to create a dress code that is, to use a legalism, gender-neutral. That means that you’re telling both sexes to dress appropriately. And the law does require that you don’t discriminate against someone’s religious beliefs – for example, by banning turbans or dreadlocks that are worn for religious reasons.

Things to consider; What kind of company image do you want? The biggest concern that most business owners have in how employees dress is the impression that customers have of the company. Many will not want a receptionist to have exposed bra straps and a very short skirt. Or a sales associate in a funny T-shirt.

Companies may have different standards that depend on whether an employee meets with customers, Someone who does meet customers at a manufacturer may be in business casual clothes. Someone in the warehouse may be in jeans and a polo shirt. And someone on the assembly line may wear construction-type clothes. You will want to spell that out in your company dress code.

But even if your employees do not meet with customers, you can still require that they dress to meet your standards. But be careful – you may not like a employees’ style, but as long as he or she is wearing appropriate clothes for your workplace, you cannot ban the wardrobe choices, unless you provide a work uniform.

Impact of Federal Elections on Local Employment

At least one interpretation of former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neil’s declaration that -All politics is local- suggests that while people may support or reject an issue on a national basis, they tend to actually vote in ways that impact them locally. If you subscribe to this notion and are concerned about local government hiring and resulting programs and services then you will want to listen carefully to the Presidential and Congressional candidates in the final weeks of the 2012 campaign.

Local government hiring depends on both intergovernmental revenues as well as the receipt of local fees and taxes. Whether you embrace Keynesian economics which promotes economic recovery and renewed growth through increased government spending, or are inclined to believe that stimulating private sector business hiring and spending through tax reductions is the answer, consider each strategy’s impact on the following.

The federal government has a long history of providing both entitlement and competitive grants to local governments directly, through state government and via regional planning bodies. These grants pay for all, or a portion, of costs to provide a variety of transportation, housing, urban redevelopment, health, welfare, social services, education, criminal justice, public safety and other services to counties, cities, school and special districts. The extent to which these grants are funded, as well as the responsibility and mechanism for service delivery are central issues for both major parties when proposing and approving federal budgets.

Thriving businesses of any size employ people and together they pay a wide range of different fees and taxes, which support all levels of government. Business-to-business synergy fuels additional growth, and employees can be counted on to purchase homes, cars and other products and services locally. Federal taxes, monetary and trade policies, and assistance programs affect business investment and expansion decisions, as do environmental and other regulations and practices. State and local taxes, incentives, controls and restrictions also have substantial impact. Service demands, and the size and scope of a local government workforce, is inextricably linked to the growth and prosperity of the host community and its business base.

In its simplest equation some would argue that taxes and federal spending must be cut to facilitate ideal business growth conditions while others advocate that government stimulus and other spending programs (which rely on increased tax revenues) create a more expeditious path to economic recovery. As in so many of life’s most puzzling quandaries, the answer may well lie in a blended approach. National security, immigration, health, welfare, education and social services are, of course, also critical components of not only economic recovery, but of bolstering local economies and strengthening government workforces, communities and families. The issues are complex. The stakes, risks and rewards of making smart governing decisions are substantial. Regardless your perspective, exercise your cherished right to vote on November 6th!

WoW Hunter Profession Guide – The 3 Best Hunter Professions for Leveling and Earning Gold

There are many possible professions for you to learn in WoW. It’s important plan out which ones you pick because some will help you tremendously and others will be useless. This Hunter profession guide will help you choose the perfect profession for your WoW hunter.

I recommend you create an alt that you will leave at the auction house. As you gain levels, mail the stuff that you can sell to your alt, so it can sell it for you. This way, you’ll focus on leveling. When you’re done, log into your alt account and sell your items in the auction house.

It’s a good idea to buy the largest bags that you can buy. Always be sure to loot everything unless you already have enough gold. Ship to your alt at the AH everything white or better that you’re not planning to keep. The grey stuff gets vendored.

The three skills that allow you to generate gold whenever you want are mining, skinning and herbalism. I suggest you take Skinning because it gives your Hunter the awesome Crit Rating. Herbalism is a heal while mining will give you a health bonus.

If you are rich, then leatherworking is a great profession that will provide you with some excellent gear. If you don’t have a ton of gold, then pass over the skills which revolve around crafting. Skinning will give you the raw materials needed for Leatherworking.

To make a small fortune in WoW, it’s a good idea to start with a large fortune and focus on leveling up a crafting profession. While leveling, don’t waste your time on the crafting professions since they’re costly and take up a lot of time. If you must get one, then Leatherworking is ideal for Hunters. You’ll be able to produce some nice gear.

Here are some other possible professions for the Hunter class in WoW:

Alchemy- It’s possible to make a bunch of helpful concoctions that you can consume when it’s necessary. You can save a bunch of gold by taking herbalism with Alchemy.
Enchanting is pretty expensive to level, but you get to place solid buffs on things.
Engineering is okay if you have a ton of gold saved up and want to ride on those Mechanical Hog Moterbikes later on.
Inscription was previously a solid money making profession, but glyphs are now learned permanently, so players won’t want to buy new ones. If you take herbalism with this, you can save a good amount of gold, since herbs are more pricey nowadays.
Avoid blacksmithing and tailoring.
Jewelcrafting can be a nice profession that will make you a lot of money if you take Mining along with it.
Cooking will allow you to make foods such as Warp Burgers which will buff your Agility stats.
First Aid is a pretty helpful skill to have, no matter what class you are.

Broaching the subject of hangover related staff sick leave

During the past seven years, since the licensing laws were relaxed in 2005, UK employers in all sectors and of all sizes are likely to experienced surges in staff sick leave that might be hangover related. In fact, research conducted by the University of Lancaster highlighted that UK workers collectively take an estimated 670,000 unauthorised days off work annually due to overindulgence in alcohol the night before.

Of this estimated figure, female employees are shown to be racking up an additional three days off per year since opening hours were extended and their male counterparts an extra day and a half per year. These figures are extremely worrying to human resources professionals dealing with staff members suspected of excessive absence due to too much alcohol during out of work hours.

When such cases arise, human resources personnel and line managers should avoid acting on hearsay and speculation. Regardless of whether or not suspicions are justified, the questioning of staff members about their out of hours leisure pursuits requires diplomacy, sensitivity and strict adherence to company policies that comply with employment law. Knee jerk reactions on the part of employers can be deeply distressing to employees and even result in employment tribunal claims being instigated if staff members uphold that they are unjustly accused, bullied or discriminated against.

We at NorthgateArinso are experienced and expert providers of human resources services, on a fully outsourced basis to businesses that do not have dedicated in house personnel, and on a partially managed basis to those that do. In cases of suspected unauthorised absence due to overindulgence in alcohol, or for any other reasons, we can guide businesses through the correct procedure. In its absence, businesses are often unsure about what constitutes both fair treatment of staff members and breaches of employment law.

How To Manage Staff Holidays At Peak Periods

As anyone who is responsible for workforce scheduling knows, ensuring adequate staff cover in summer and at popular holiday times can be a real headache. Add to that the problem of parents having to take time off to care for their children at half term and staff scheduling can turn into a logistical nightmare. Many businesses experience a downturn in turnover during peak holiday periods as most of their customers are also on holiday. In such cases, it may make economic sense to run the business using only essential core staff or even close down completely for a week or two.

However, not every business owner can afford the luxury of being able to shut down completely for the holidays. Indeed, some sectors, notably travel, leisure and hospitality, experience even greater demand for their services during the holiday season. Using workforce management software will make it easier for you to handle holiday cover. It also avoids the risk of leaving your business understaffed or employees feeling demoralised if they can’t get time off.

Factors to consider

When drafting your holiday coverage schedule, there are many things to bear in mind: Determine staffing requirements – Use employee scheduling software to analyse past records in order to predict how much staff coverage you are likely to need during peak holiday periods. Summer months and Christmas are often slow for many industry sectors, so you may need fewer workers or be open for shorter hours. Communicate clearly – Let staff know well in advance what is needed to keep the business running over the holiday period. Ensure they are aware of the company holiday policy, which days (if any) the business will be closed for the holidays and exceptionally busy periods when they cannot take time off. Be flexible – Does everyone need to be physically present in the workplace? If working remotely is a viable option, some employees could spend more time with their families during the holidays and still get their jobs done. Be fair – Most employees will want the same days off, but you should be aware that some may need more time off because they have to travel a long way to spend the holidays with their families. Using a software system that combines employee records with employee scheduling will keep managers aware of such special requirements. Rotate holidays – Workforce management is far more likely to work without complaint at holiday time if employees know they won’t be forced to do the same next year. Staff management software can help you to keep track of who took which days off during the holiday season so you can ask different people to provide cover over the holidays the following year.

Housing Assistance for Low-Income Families

Many low-income families require assistance with affordable housing, and programs and policies that fulfill these needs help many people realize their lifelong dream of being a homeowner. Before one applies for public housing assistance programs in Dallas, some important points should be remembered.

The American government helps in providing affordable and sustainable housing to low-income families by giving them considerably decent rental accommodation as part of public housing programs. There are an estimated number of almost a million households that have been aided by Federal funds. The HUD or the -Department of Housing and Urban Development- looks after these housing assistance programs for low-income families. There are a number of HA or Housing Agencies that manage these assistance programs. Providing affordable housing to low-income families is a stabilizing attempt made by the US government, to have balance in the social structure.

At the time of the Great Depression, many Americans were left with almost no money which was the result of widespread unemployment. This was the time when housing help was first provided to low-income families.

Criteria of eligibility: In order to make sure that the public aid is going to really needy applicants, and the grant of aid is not being abused in any way, the HA decides on the eligibility of the applicants based on a criterion. The gross annual income of an applicant has to be either 50% of AMI or Average Median Income, or 80% of AMI. Those whose income is 80% of AMI belong to the -low-income- category while those whose salary is 50% of AMI belong to -very low-income- category.

If you are looking for quality and affordable housing, you can browse the internet where you will find a number of websites of housing authorities that assist low-income families by providing them with safe and decent houses. Get all information before you invest.

About the Author:
Made up of more than 300 organizations and individuals, The North Texas Housing Coalition, Inc (NTHC) is a 501(c) (3) HUD-certified counseling agency. It works to improve and increase affordable housing in the North Texas region.
